Spring Cleaning: Closet Edition
Channel your inner Marie Kondo this spring season, it's time for spring cleaning! The sun is shining, rain is falling, and the flowers are blooming! It's time to get rid of all of your heavy outerwear and make room for your spring closet! Here are some tips to get you going.
Think about what you want your spring wardrobe to look like. Are you into florals? Maybe pastel colors? Creating a moodboard of what you want your look to be this spring will help you immensely. Once you have an idea in mind, it'll be easier to decipher which garments to keep and which ones to get rid of.
First things first, when it comes to your closet the first step to decluttering is separating what you don't need from what you want to keep. Make a pile for clothes you know you want to keep, clothes you want to donate, and clothes you can transform. It helps to try things on so you can really gage what is worth keeping.
Let it go!
Sometimes it's hard to let go of clothing that you have an attachment to, but let's be honest, that dress that you wore once is really just taking up space in your closet. Don't forget- your style changes! Its ok to get rid of items you know you won't wear anymore. Let it go!
No rain, No Rainbow
Depending on where you live, springtime can come with a lot of ups and downs when it comes to climate. What's spring without nipy air in the morning and warm afternoons? You can keep certain pieces in your closet that are perfect for this. Lightweight hoodies, cardigans, and jackets are definite staples. Rain jackets and rain boots are a must in your springtime wardrobe as well, April showers bring May flowers!
Cut & Sew
Missing a button on your favorite blazer? Or lost some weight and can't fit your favorite jeans anymore? No worries a little DIY will fix that. Make some transformations to your favourite garments, all you need is scissors, a needle and thread, and maybe some fabric glue. Fashion Wizadry is a great DIY channel you can watch for some inspiration!
Color is Key!
Fashion forecasters have pinpointed some core shades that you can expect to see this season. If you have these colors already, you're ahead of the curb! If not, no problem, you'll be sure to find garments in these colors soon enough!
When it comes to your drawers, folding is key to having an organized wardrobe. Take some tips from Marie Kondos playbook - use boxes, fold garments into small squares, and place garments vertically instead of stacking them. Using a vertical shoe organizer can also free up space on the floor to make your closet look less cluttered.
Last step: coordinate! Coordinating your closet by color and category can make picking outfits a lot easier. Organize by category first then by color, this way you can choose the style for your outfit you're going for and then decide on the color.
With quarantine and social isolation from COVID-19 being the new norm, now is the perfect time to declutter your space! Start off the spring season with a fresh start!
