Motivation 101: How to Stay in the Gym
January 1st marked the beginning of a new chapter for many. Resolutions and manifestations for 2020 were made across the world leading up to the mark of the new year and decade. Three of the most common resolutions are working out, losing weight, and exercising more. Easily put -- people just want to be healthy. Setting resolutions is a big step towards being able to cross your goals off of your list but following through on these resolutions seems to be the most difficult part of the process. We’ve come up with five ways to keep up your motivation to stay healthy and in the gym throughout the rest of the year.
Get an accountability partner!
A workout partner is more than someone to workout with you, they can also hold you accountable for following through on the goals you’ve set for yourself. It works both ways though, as their accountability partner you should be making sure that they’re staying on track to hit their targets!
Fitness challenges keep you on track
If you need a push and a bit of structure, you should try 7-day, 14-day, and 30-day challenges, such as a 30-day squat challenge. The easiest way to find these challenges is by searching them by hashtag on Instagram or in the search bar on Pinterest.
Try a group fitness class!
Working out by yourself can be boring and having to come up with your own workout plan can feel impossible. Joining a fitness class can eliminate both of those problems! A good tip to remember is finding a class that is up to your speed. You need a challenge, but at the same time you want to avoid pushing yourself too hard by trying to keep up with those around you.
Find a physical hobby
A common complaint about working out at the gym is that it’s boring, and to be honest, no lies were told. However, if you find the gym too boring for your liking, there’s plenty of other physical activities for you to do to get your workout on. Some popular out-of-the-gym workouts include pole dancing, boxing, hiking, jogging in your neighborhood or at a park, zumba classes, etc..
Try to outrun a zombie
Yup, you read that correctly. You can download the “Zombies, Run” app in any app store. You can out- walk, jog, or run zombies in the “comfort” of your neighborhood. The app will tell you your mission and when zombies chase you, you have to speed up! In order to build up your base, In order to complete your mission, you have to collect supplies which you’ll get through reaching certain milestones while running. Seems like a pretty fun way to stay motivated to workout!
Keeping yourself motivated to workout can be tough but there’s plenty of ways to get around it. One thing to remember is being healthy takes just as much mental as it does physical, so mentally motivating yourself to continue working out is a great place to start. On the days you don’t feel like working out, remember why you started working out and how good the post-workout Adrenalin feels!
